'a substantial 200-plus page book of essays by the speakers, beautiful artwork, pieces about the intent of the Festival from the organizers, background and interviews on the artists at the Festival, and more. This book is a wonderful take-away which supports what happened and will allow it to take root much more effectively for those who were there. I've read the essays of several presenters and the interview with the re-united band Comus after their performance and it really helped deepen my experience. It stands well on its own as something of a snapshot/ad hoc manifesto of the current "occult revival" (if, in fact, such a thing is happening)'. Gareth Branwyn, Boing Boing

K11
'Voices From Thelema' CD

Genre: instrumental transcommunication/ambient/experimental
K 11 is a project of Italian sound/installation artist Pietro Riparbelli that deals with the world of radio signals, trans-communication and other invisible phenomena, to create a dimension where the only sound sources are signals from shortwave radio receivers. When constructing works under the K 11 project, Riparbelli uses only sounds from the atmosphere and from invisible, unknown sources. In this way, Riparbelli creates more esoteric works than his field recording based material as PT-R, and 'Voices From Thelema' is perhaps the logical conclusion of such an enterprise.

'Voices from Thelema' is an instrumental trans-communication action with short wave radio receivers realized inside Thelema Abbey in Cefal, October 14, 2007. The ruined building stands derelict and on the verge of collapse, though still holds many secrets and has been a focus for much counter cultural activity since its foundation by Aleister Crowley in 1920 as a religious centre and commune where he could instruct disciples in his emerging Thelemic religion and systems of magick in a rural atmosphere, far from the overpowering prevailing morality of England. Activities included meditation and ritual magick, as well as the sensationalised drug taking and sex magick. The wall of many of the rooms were painted with fantastic murals by Crowley himself, depicting many of the elementals and demons encountered in his magickal exercises, and the remains of many of these adorn the accompanying booklet. After being ejected from Italy following scandal and outcry over the goings on at the Abbey, the walls were whitewashed and destroyed. Filmmaker Kenneth Anger, himself a devotee of Crowley, later uncovered and filmed some of its murals in his film 'Thelema Abbey' (1955), now considered lost, and the Abbey has been a place of pilgrimage for many ever since.

K 11 now revisits this site and seeks to uncover the genius loci, the very essence of the building itself, to reach out into the aether and construct meaning and reality from that which is beyond our grasp. The three tracks are the result of this work and, each bearing titles of Thelemic significance, can be said to hold the essence of all that remains at Cefalu, like the background radiation that tells of the Big Bang.

DO WHAT THOU WILT SHALL BE THE WHOLE OF THE LAW

Presented as a deluxe CD digipack, with glued in 32 page booklet featuring exclusive documentary photographs from the recording process at Thelema Abbey. The disc also features a short film shot on location at the Abbey during the recording. You can read a great review at Judas Kiss.

BURIAL HEX
'Initiations' CD

Clay Ruby. (feedback, voice, PAIA 4700, samples, microphones, homemade oscillators, metal, organs, earth, distortion, delay, insect, reverb, electric piano and analog tape)

Burial Hex first made itself known to Aurora Borealis a few years ago when browsing obscure blackened electronic treats online. The subsequent purchase delivered a rather bizarre cassette tape, totally without markings, and a cryptic, darkly printed simple cover bearing ancient symbols and occult schematics: "Curses of the Earth" indeed. It conjured all sorts of imaginings - nocturnal rites, lonely vigils with archaic analogue equipment, moonlight, madness...

In 2007 Aurora Borealis found itself face to face with Burial Hex across the strings of the ether, in communication via email, almost wholly by accident and coincidence. Taking this to be a sign, perhaps the hand of destiny, a deal was secured to release something. More instinct than reaction, no one knew what to expect. The "oppressive necro electronics" of the recordings heard so far gave little idea of what lay in store, of the new depths to be explored, the madness to be embraced.

"Initiations", the debut recording for Aurora Borealis, is a lengthy proposition. Clocking in at one hour, thirteen minutes, it represents a journey, a metaphysical odyssey of uncertain outcome. From the psycho-religious clamour of 'Will to the chapel' with its jihadic cries, through to the somnambulant, subterranean oscillations of 'Eight pentacles', the way ahead is far from clear, the atmosphere claustrophobic and threatening. 'The river of Los' showcases a new breadth of vision for Burial Hex with layers of undulating analogue synth and gentle percussion, an opiate addled take on the horror electronics hinted at previously, and perhaps an indication of things to come. This long track takes the listener on a river journey, part Apocalypse Now!, part Orpheus in the Underworld, submerged in Carpenter's dense Fog, slow moving discomfort and ague. The album ends with the half speed collisions, static miasma and white noise squawl of 'Bo -II- Ne', the listener deposited on shores unknown, prostrate at the feet of the infinite mystery.

Burial Hex has surpassed all expectation with "Initiations": Kneel, o ye acolytes, before an astral-industrial opus of vast depth and occult magnitude.

"See that door marked 'Exit'? No, of course you don't there's no escaping here." - Heathen Harvest.
CD in printed card packaging with spine, with two inserts, in poly bag.

ARKTAU EOS
'Mirrorion' CD

Presented in seventeen chapters that can be approached as singular gateways or a slowly unfolding journey of epic proportions, the debut album of ARKTAU EOS is a challenging, complex work. Born of intense private musico-magical sessions held in places abandoned by man and further refined in the temple-laboratory of the duo, it is the distillation of seven arduous months of work.
As the title suggests, 'Mirrorion' is the music of stellar light thrown down from the Heaven's zenith and its eldritch reflections in the depths below, uniting atavistic elemental noise with serene passages of crystalline, spectral ambience. Ultimately, 'Mirrorion' seeks to surpass such earthly definitions in favour of a non-dual vision of reality, hopefully transforming the listener in the process.
For this recording ARKTAU EOS have favoured an organic approach with majority of instrumentation being of acoustic variety, including the unearthly choral of the kanglings, piercings blasts of windbones, accelerating steel-plate rolls, singing bowl and various kinds of stringed instruments.

Comes in an six-panel, A5 booklet. Limited to 1000 copies. Aural Hypnox, Finland.

KINIT HER
'Glyms or Beame of Radicall Truthes' CD

Genre: far out/experimental

"Kinit Her are triumvirate a realm of qliphotic vibrations. For their debut album three Wisconsinites holed up in basements and bedrooms to create an opus of eastern-European folk melodies and black metal washes embroidered with witches croons and crystalline sonic manipulation. Kinit Her turned to their nightside for Glyms on songs like "The Arc of Acuity" and "Crypt Cathedral Shrine" mischievous string arrangements are brought to the fore, while tracks like "Quadriga" and "Falling Aeroliths" are massive guitar driven triumphs.
'Glyms or Beame of Radicall Truthes' pulls its magico-philosophical inspiration from a wide array of sources from the Purple Analects of Taoism, to the Western esoteric tradition, up to modern day conspiracy theories. Musically, the record is informed by the 80's British underground experimental scene, 90's Scandinavian black metal, and the timelessness of all folk currents."
This is some truly unique stuff here... I'm not sure there's anyone else in the world doing this.
