NEKRASOV
'Into The No-Mans-Sphere Of The Ancient Days' CD

Genre: black metal/dark ambient

Self-released debut album from this Australian atmospheric Black Metal / Noise / Dark Ambient act. "From the surreal, nightmare-evoking textures that speak to the most ancient and basic part of our beings - that which understands without attaching judgment - to the unabashedly raw renditions of suffering brought on by the purposefully unintelligible, wretched vocals and the seething guitar-work, the listener may draw parallels but will surely find no equal to what is found here. All assumptions you might make as to the musical influences that may or may not have imprinted themselves upon this record may just as well be wrong. So simply listen and let the music wash over you". Ltd x 500 copies in a digifile.

POTOP
'Channels' CD

POTOP create seismic assaults of negative, down tempo extreme hardcore. In a world where the boundaries between hardcore punk and extreme metal have long since dissolved, POTOP straddle genres and easy labels to produce pure audio negativity, despair and ecstatic misery. Their sound combines hardcore urgency of extreme Power Violence acts such as DROP DEAD, CROSSED OUT and MAN IS THE BASTARD colliding with the slow motion brutal Doom of bands like BURNING WITCH. POTOP are fiercely DIY and have strong links with the global hardcore underground, typified by their hands-on involvement with the FUCK YOGA label.

"Channels", the band's first CD release, combines two tracks from the split 12" with the US band BURMESE and a further track from a forthcoming FUCK YOGA compilation LP with two previously unreleased dirges. POTOP are slow, blackened, ugly music.

"channels the slowest, ugliest sludge possible into narcotized dirges splattered with sickening feedback that drones on and on and on, twisted slow motion riffs, pounding glacial drums, occasionally blasting into short bursts of noisy, unstructured grind. But it's the vocals, that intense, tortured wailing and shrieking, a high pitched bloodflecked scream that oozes fear and horror and despair...it's the vocalsn that elevate Potop's extreme sludge to another level of seismic intensity, and I'd almost compare 'em to the idiosyncratic suicidal shrieks of Silencer. Think Burning Witch, Crossed Out, Eyehategod, Despise You, but more vile." - Crucial Blast
"I" (edit) sample.
Other notes: IRON PIG is proud to present "Channels" with the packaging entirely in the band's native Macedonian language, in Cyrillic characters.
Running time approx 30 minutes. IRON PIG records.

Procer Veneficus
'Convoy (pt.2)' digi CD

Genre:psychedelic post-black
"After releasing the stunning 'A Summerhaze Array for August Nights' 2 cd boxed set, now comes this new effort from Procer Veneficus. 'Convoy (Pt. 2)' takes off in a slightly different direction in terms of composition and form but make no mistake, this is Procer Veneficus' greatest and most absorbing / thought provoking work to date. Almost an hour of psychedelic Black Metal delivered like no other..." - God Is Myth.

Peter Rehberg
'Work for GV: 2004 - 2008' CD

Genre: noise/electronics

Peter Rehberg's collaboration with the Paris based puppeteer and choreographer, Gisele Vienne began in 2001, with the production of the DACM piece 'ShowroomDummies', followed by 'Stereotypie' in 2003.
In 2004, Vienne started to direct under her own name and began to work on pieces collaborating on text with US author, Dennis Cooper. This CD is a document of selected audio parts of all Gisele Vienne productions made between 2004 and 2008, except for the epic 'Kindertotenlieder', whose audio material was presented on the various KTL releases in 2006 and 2007 (eMEGO 084, eMEGO 085).
The range here is vast from the upfront noise excess of the 'I Apologize' (2004) tracks to the lonely synth passages which were used in 'Une Belle Enfant Blonde' (2005), and the sad coda used for 'Jerk', which began as a radio play for Radio France Culture in 2007, before being adapted for stage in 2008.
The opening 'Murder Version' is a version of the recording 'Meurtre' by Catherine Robbe-Grillet & Jonathan Capdevielle, which was released as a single sided 12" vinyl in 2005 (UBEB 001), and is to be considered as a tribute to the Alain Robbe-Grillet film 'Glissements progressifs du plaisir' (1974).
Although this material was intended for consumption in a theatrical setting, it has been edited with domestic use in mind ultimately representing that the grey zone where puppetry, literature, contemporary theatre & dance, visual art, and extreme computer music meet.

SILBERNACHT
'Liebe und Verfall: Die Hoffnun stirbt, die Liebe nicht' CD

"This one has been in the planning stages for a couple of years. Imagine a gloomy, old silent film. Imagine the soundtrack for that film. This CD would be the music you would hear.
Germany couldn't be a more appropriate home for SILBERNACHT, project of one Frank Esser, for this musical score seems to fit in perfectly with an era of film that is legendary the world over thanks to the genius of many a German filmmaker.
The release is on a 4-panel chipboard stock, with hand printed panels, is set up to look like the work received from Herr Esser over the years." - Ajna
Tracklisting:
1. Das Erwachen (The Awakening)
2. Liebe und Verfall (Love and Decay)
3. Unter den Sternen (Under the Stars)
4. Wenn der Tod nur Sehnsucht weckt (When Death only creates Longing)
This really is very good indeed and very unusual. Lots of reviews have mentioned various films that this brings to mind, but to my mind its "Carnival of Souls". This release is adrift in time, another great release from the ever amazing Ajna.

SOL / BLODTRU
'Old Europa Death Chants' CD

Genre: folk/drone/doom
A powerful colaboration recording between Danish artists Sol and Blodtru. After heavyweight, acclaimed work on Van Records and Det Germanske Folket, "Old Europa Death Chants" is a truly epic album of choral, folkloric and atmospheric avant doom over a mammoth 77 minutes. Finding a home somewhere between the claustrophobic mirk of Skepticism, the bleakness of Khanate, the driving rhythms of Godflesh and a heart of European neo-folk, this is one glorious, bleak and rewarding proposition. The first track is a take on a Henry Purcell composition and is quite Classical in approach with a distinct Ulver feel to it, setting the rather solitary and bleak outlook for the entirte album.

A very special album and a perfect addition to the Paradigms family, packaged in beautiful, full colour card sleeve and Paradigms wallet. Limited edition of 500 copies only.

Tetragrammaton
'Point of Convergence' CD

Genre:drone/experimental
"Trapped on an ocean of disparate languages, sound gravitates towards meaning, escaping the obsolescence of mother tongues by denying the slow decay of time. In the biblical tale of the Tower of Babel, God punishes the tower builders by scattering them across the earth, unintelligible to each other. As they departed their blissful prison of same-think, they became drunk with new songs, washing down their newfound 'auditory cheesecake' with sectarian babble. In as much as their speech had been confounded, they were offered a musical re-enchantment through floating words, alveolar clicks and talking drums. By refusing the past, their music ceased to exist in time, choosing instead to create it.

Employing hurdy-gurdy, crystal bowls, bells, voice, drums and waterphones, Tetragrammaton revisits the bedraggled unlanguage of the castoff nomad builders with quantum force. Climbing into gilded time capsules, the three members soon reappear uttering unknown tongues and blowing ancient horns, drenched in the embryonic saliva of Thoth, that Egyptian God of knowing-it-all. Point of Convergence is arguably the group's finest outing yet, capturing stripped-down harmonic explorations, overdriven dronescapes, meditative underwater recordings and a judicious dose of blown-out psychedelia." - UTECH

This is some deep listening stuff, but highly immersive and rewarding.

THISQUIETARMY
'Aftermath' CD

Genre:drone/electronica
Aftermath is thisquietarmy's fourth album and first for Basses FrŽquences. Partially inspired and in respect to aesthetics by the works of German visual artist Anselm Kiefer, the setting of Aftermath takes place in the post-apocalyptic countryside and revolves around fallen angels as unexploded ordnances. In parallel, the compositions were also inspired by the sounds of crackling tubes and failing resistors captured by amplifiers during the recording process. Drones and melodies were built around these hissing sounds to create moods of tension and transitions from the remnants of destruction. These static interferences thus remained as important compositional elements, as if the whole themed-universe stemmed from a faraway buzz, in which the dawn of a new era reveals itself. With Aftermath, thisquietarmy manages to create the perfect light and heavy post-nuclear winter atmosphere, with a glimmer of hope appearing slowly like sun rays through massive dust clouds.

Running Time: 47:00, Format: Digipak

This is an amzing album, truly wonderful. Massive JESU-like walls of glittering heavy drone ambience collide with tectonic percussion. Awesome. 'Vessels' will be released on Aurora Borealis early 2011 on CD and LP, so look out for that one.

'Idioscape' CD digipack

Genre: experimental/ambient/drone
"the idea was to ask some of our favourite sound artists to take part in a compilation . . . and, to our surprise, they accepted. The only concept was that they had to provide a specific / particular / idiosyncratic piece. qualified as a Òdrone paradiseÓ by lasse marhaug (of jazkamer), the result is a fine and coherent whole, full of extended textures, contrasted acoustic surfaces, subtle and strong.

Idioscapes contains 70 minutes of authentic acoustic researches, with glitches, loops, noises, deep and glittering textures, subliminal frequences and narrative inserts, punctured with sensible musical moments.

Idiosyncratics is honoured to present these sound masters on idioscapes. infinite thanks to all of them."

VELNIAS
'Sovereign Nocturnal' digi CD

Genre:blackened doom
"God is Myth Records is proud to present Illinois based blacked doom outfit VELNIAS. The bands music can be best described as a combination of sorrowful black metal with a very doomy atmosphere, combined with elements of folk. Although the band definately has their own sound, one could easily find comparisons to bands like OPETH, AGALLOCH, PRIMORDIAL & WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM.

'Sovereign Nocturnal', the bands debut album is miles ahead of their 2007 demo 'Pacing the Cyclic Nether' in terms of maturity, songcraft & production. With the three songs combining for a total running time of 41 minutes & 15 seconds the emphasis has been laid upon a musical foundation of progressive yet feral riffs intertwining with delicate passages that only make the heavier parts that much more potent, not unlike early Opeth & Agalloch! Combined with lyrical content based upon the premise that the human race is insignificant compared to the grand power and prestige of nature this is a debut album that should not be dismissed!" - God Is Myth.
Definitely one for fans of the emergent Cascadian scene.

VENA
'Nomadic' CDEP

Genre:post-rock
"We're especially excited about this debut cdep from Norway's VENA. One of our finest Paradigms releases to date too, in our humble opinion. Beautiful shoegazey, textured indie heaviness with gorgeous girl vocals for appreciators of Cult Of Luna, Wovenhand and early Ride perhaps. At it's core, VENA is husband and wife duo Benjamin and Kjersti Pyke, with Thomas Pyke and Martine Diesen driving the rich, powerful rhythm section throughout. Recorded by the band in Oslo and mastered by Magnus Lindberg of Cult Of Luna.

Something special is happening here. 4 luscious, dynamic somber songs over 25 minutes presented in finely crafted spined cardboard wallet sleeve with Paradigms inner wallet. Limited editoon of 500 copies only." - Paradigms.

VOM
'Primitive Arts' CD

Genre: noise/doom/drone

"First full-length album by this Glasgow-based post-goth trio, and one of my absolute favourite At War releases ever! Building on their two-track CDr on Kovorox from a couple of years ago, Vom have come out with a much more attractive proposition than the metal/krautrock hybrid which was going on there; this album is much more focussed, dark and heavy. In fact it's as brooding and dripping with dark atmosphere as anything I've heard released in ages. Like a hybrid of Scream-era Siouxsie And The Banshees, early X-Mal Deustchland and the first Killing Joke LP, with vocals buried deep in the mix and heavily distorted (think Ramleh's early post-PE stage), Vom reference a lot of music yet sound nothing like you've ever heard. Total intensity and they deserve to be huge; hopefully this will be the first step on the jourey.
500 copies, in gatefold mini LP-style sleeves, with art by the excellent Fred Ressler." - AWWFN

Wolfmangler
'They Call Us Naughty Wolves' CD

Genre:chamber doom
"D. Smolken returns to the God is Myth stable in the form of his slow, grim & noisy chamber doom outfit WOLFMANGLER. While the spirit of past WOLFMANGLER releases were covers of folk songs, classical music pieces and jazz standards, this latest work entitled "They Call Us Naughty Wolves" is the bands unique take on pop music from yesteryear. The results are very much remniscent of a blackened burlesque chamber ensemble funneled through a broken radio in a post-apocalyptic wasteland picking up distorted pieces of hits from the 1930s. Somewhere Little Red Riding Hood just wet her panties!" - God Is Myth.

Y.E.R.M.O.
'Colision Zone' CD digipack

Genre: experimental/ambient/drone
This album is a musical extension of a soundtrack produced by Y.E.R.M.O. in collaboration with conceptual and visual artists Nadine Hilbert & Gast Bouschet for the Luxembourg Pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennale (running till november 2009).

The music is an invocation of the coldness and cruelty of a borderzone between two worlds and a transmutation of fear into euphoria. The album is a unique piece of immersive ritual sounds, dominated by loud, distorded guitars, hypnotic percussions and industrial drones within rain-soaked Mediterranean landscapes.

-Field recordings & artwork by Nadine Hilbert & Gast Bouschet
-Additional drums by Jason Van Gulick
-Mastered by James Plotkin
