Nachtmystium
'Instinct:Decay'CD
Genre: USBM
Nachtmystium's third and highly-acclaimed full-length album, "Instinct: Decay" is a murky, psychedelic voyage into utter darkness.
I absolutely love this album. Totally progressive but still very much black metal. There's wailing riffs in here that remind me of Hendrix, melodies pahse in and out, one that even recalls part of 'Love Gun' by KISS, but maybe that's just me! Truly a marvelous piece of work as the band started to veer
further into psychedelic territory. Totally recommended. Not too avant to be annoying or weak in any way, this is just classic.

NADja
'Desire In Uneasiness' CD
Genre: ethereal dream dirge
Following a wave of recent reissues and re-recorded versions of older CD-R titles, 'Desire In Uneasiness' is an album of all new material from
the acclaimed Canadian dreamsludge weavers Nadja. Five colossal jams of eternally-fuzzy, ethereal dirge that are powered by the interlocking bass
guitars of Leah Buckareff and Aidan Baker, who set loose a wave of monstrous grinding bass riffs amidst a fog of beautiful, swirling electronic
effects. Desire also marks the first Nadja album to feature a live drummer in place of the drum machine programming that has driven the band's
previous recordings, and the difference in the band's sound is apparent from the first crushing beats of album opener 'Disambiguation'. The organic
drumming here takes Nadja's music into new realms of spacious jazzy exploration, dubby rhythms and cavernous psychedelia, while also delivering some
of the band's most grooving, crushing hypno-bliss yet.
Desire also stands out from the rest of the Nadja catalog for it's bizarre artwork that Aidan commisioned from his friend The Reverend Aitor. Aitor's
bright, bold lines and textured magic marker artwork gives the gatefold jacket we've presented this disc in the look of a twisted children's book on
acid, with weird images of chickens, trees growing through chairs, and more. The package is a sturdy 4-panel gatefold jacket printed by Stoughton,
and it looks killer.

NEKRASOV
'Into The No-Mans-Sphere Of The Ancient Days' CD
Genre: black metal/dark ambient
Self-released debut album from this Australian atmospheric Black Metal / Noise / Dark Ambient act. "From the surreal, nightmare-evoking textures that speak to the
most ancient and basic part of our beings - that which understands without attaching judgment - to the unabashedly raw renditions of suffering brought on by the purposefully
unintelligible, wretched vocals and the seething guitar-work, the listener may draw parallels but will surely find no equal to what is found here. All assumptions you might make
as to the musical influences that may or may not have imprinted themselves upon this record may just as well be wrong. So simply listen and let the music wash over you".

NEKRASOV
'The Form Of Thought From Beast' CD
Genre: black metal/dark ambient
Second self-released opus from this Australian act. Raw, creepy, enigmatic black metal-meets-noise-meets-dark ambient. "Nekrasov is most definitely
a master of both the noise and the riff, and manages to fuse the two into something blackly transcendent... blown out soundscapes of samples and percussion,
blurred into a windswept buzz, what sounds like ghostlike vocals underneath processed sounds of whipping winds and the click clack of a railroad, to noise
drenched old school raw black metal crush, to slow burning deep ambience... Absolutely essential" (Aquarius). PVC sleeve.

NORDVARGR
'Pyrrhula' CD
Genre: noise/death ambient/drone
Partly based on an old Swedish folktale, Pyrrhula ("doomlord") is a pitch black journey into utter darkness. This is a tale of foreboding doom... a portent of dark times to come...
a blight on the face of this earth. These eight Black Ambient / Doom / Droneworks were brought forth from the abyss of Villa Bohult exclusively for Cold Spring and contain
the malevolent vocals of Lord Nordvargr himself!. "Beware the small creatures of light, they only bring misery and death upon the enlightened ones. For they will paint their breast with blood
and reap your unborn angels."

NUIT NOIRE
'Fantomatic Plenitude' CD
The first half includes nine of the latest recordings from the French eccentric genius Tenebras! Recorded February-July 2007. Guitars sound as ethereal as
they ever did, Emile joins on vocals as on 'Infantile Espieglery'.
The second half of the CD is a live recording from June 16, 2006 - Tapette Fest. It was a great recording anyway but has been mixed and mastered for this
release! Nine tracks taken from Lunar Deflagration, Furibond Elegance EP and some older titles like Nightwind and of course Lutina!! Featuring Nicoblast on
drums.
Who'd have guessed there would be a Japanese release from NUIT NOIRE? Even has an Obi strip. The world is a strange place as anyone that hear this will agree.
The most bizarre band in France continues to bewilder. Great back cover shot featuring the emaciated Tenebras in a cape and loincloth combo.

O'Malley & Csihar
'6Fskyquake' CD
Genre: noise/ambient
Stephen O'Malley: HP 200CD & Travis Bean / Fender Twin Reverb
Attila Csihar: Vocals
Total Time: 33:41
Produced for Banks Violette exhibitions at Barbara Gladstone & TEAM Galleries, NYC 28th June - 17th August 2007.
6Fskyquake is an audio composition designed in 2001 but explored in
conjunction with the american sculptor Banks Violette's solo shows in summer 2007. Actually, two shows at two different galleries, Barbara Gladstone & Team, running simultaneously for the duration. The interaction of sound and Violette's work revisited concepts touched in prior collaboration of loss, absence, residual energy of a missed evocative experience.
The composition was captured at a recording session during the installation process in Team gallery, and later transfered to Gladstone as recorded playback. Designed for 3 separate systems consisting of powered 18" subwoofers and PA tops, the entire composition runs a total of 8 hours and 35 minutes.
This room recording represents a possible stereo interpretation of a portion of that work.
The fifth collaboration between Stephen O'Malley & Banks Violette circulated amongst the main theme of sound as physical presence. Sound pressure in substantial space, relative dimension between concrete & perceptual mass, gravity induced by heightened sonic action and standing sub bass pressure. The contribution of lyrics, text & vocals by Attila Csihar inspired by his journeys inside imperial Tokyo bring emotive & meditative identity to the otherwise purely structural composition. For this we shall be blessed.
The ghost of presence subsists across physical space, the phantom of absence across linear finite, the shadow of mass via memories. What once was.
VERY LIMITED STOCK.

PITA
'Get Off' CD
Genre: ECM/electronica/noise
This is the fourth solo album from groundbreaking sound artist Pita (real name Peter Rehberg, also of KTL). His previous solo albums as Pita (all on the Mego label) have all been landmarks in electronic music. His sound ranges from furious to minimalistic, but always with the same uncompromising attitude. To be true to ones ideas when trends come and go is something admirable in every artist. "Get Off" is his most varied album to date.
Get Off was made over a two-year period, with most of the material originating from various 'live' situations. It was then compiled and completed during the summer of 2004 in relative isolation.
8 tracks, 35 minutes, nice packaging from the Hpna label.
...spacious yet harsh sounds...somewhere in the thermal pools between drone and noise. Although remaining on the difficult side of fringe music, this one still works like balsam for the warped mind, and its organic qualities are as mesmerizing as they are surprising. -
Mats Gustafsson, Broken Face.
Coming off somewhere like broken ambient with some beautiful and deranged parts, this is really great. Recommended.

POTOP
'Channels' CD
POTOP create seismic assaults of negative, down tempo extreme hardcore. In a world where the boundaries between hardcore punk and extreme metal have long since dissolved, POTOP straddle genres and easy labels to produce pure audio negativity, despair and ecstatic misery. Their sound combines hardcore urgency of extreme Power Violence acts such as DROP DEAD, CROSSED OUT and MAN IS THE BASTARD colliding with the slow motion brutal Doom of bands like BURNING WITCH. POTOP are fiercely DIY and have strong links with the global hardcore underground, typified by their hands-on involvement with the FUCK YOGA label.
"Channels", the band's first CD release, combines two tracks from the split 12" with the US band BURMESE and a further track from a forthcoming FUCK YOGA compilation LP with two previously unreleased dirges. POTOP are slow, blackened, ugly music.
"channels the slowest, ugliest sludge possible into narcotized dirges splattered with sickening feedback that drones on and on and on, twisted slow motion riffs, pounding glacial drums, occasionally blasting into short bursts of noisy, unstructured grind. But it's the vocals, that intense, tortured wailing and shrieking, a high pitched bloodflecked scream that oozes fear and horror and despair...it's the vocalsn that elevate Potop's extreme sludge to another level of seismic intensity, and I'd almost compare 'em to the idiosyncratic suicidal shrieks of Silencer. Think Burning Witch, Crossed Out, Eyehategod, Despise You, but more vile." - Crucial Blast
"I" (edit) sample.
Other notes: IRON PIG is proud to present "Channels" with the packaging entirely in the band's native Macedonian language, in Cyrillic characters.
The CD package will have an outer sticker with English language text.
Running time approx 30 minutes. IRON PIG records.

Professor
s/t 3" CD
Genre: grind/noise/metal
"On a European trek about ten years ago, a curious 7" was unearthed in a used record store. It had an amazing black and white cover, a painting of Golgotha, with the cross lost in a cloudy haze and surrounded by watercolored trees. The band was called Professor, their logo in splattery hand drawn Olde English. And the record was called The Academizer ep. One of the tracks was "Into The Auditorium". Suddenly thoughts of an evil black metal band made up entirely of doctoral scholars leapt to mind. Sort of the whole Carcass medical student thing, but with academia. This was just getting better and better. The record sat unplayed until returning to the States, where it finally made it onto the turntable. And holy shit! It was as good as the cover suggested it could be. A sloppy noisy blackened slab of Carcass worship. Blast beats and grinding guitars, howled gutteral vocals, and crushing heaviness.
Fierce and furious, stumbling and blasting drunkenly like a grinding blackened metallic juggernaut. Four tracks of crushing grind, pummelling crush and grinding pummel. Heavy and noisy and fucking great! Rumour was, that Professor was maybe a joke. But if that's true, this is some sick joke. Fans of Carcass, Drop Dead, grindcore, black metal, and all things heavy owe it to themselves to enter the auditorium, and bow before the Professor!!
This long lost, VERY out of print black/grind/thrash artifact is finally available on cd, on a 3" cd in fact, with the original 7" art (only smaller!)" - Andee, TUMULT
This is mental sounding: trash can/sewing machine drums, production by someone with no ears, truly retarded but amazing. If you are looking for fucked up, this is it. 3" CD in a mini jewel case, cute!

PULSEFEAR
"Perichoresis" CD
"Now serving as the alter-ego of The Axis Of Perdition (just like Tribes Of Neurot are to Neurosis), where the sounds that Pulsefear
were generating in their lair would inevitably lay the foundations down to what The Axis Of Perdition would become, Profound Lore are proud
to unleash the nightmare that was first conjured up in 2000 and continued to brood up until 2006.
Characteristically, Pulsefear and The Axis Of Perdition of course do share similar aesthetics, even though both entities purvey different
expressions in their audial interpretations of sheer utter horror. With Perichoresis, Pulsefear unveil sounds of rust and decay while
summoning a foreboding evil ready to unearth itself from the cracks of the run down walls, hallways, and desolate roads and alleyways of a
town that has become so decrepit and ghostly from the ensuing engulfing darkness that has consumed it to no end. As Perichoresis progresses
through its journey, the dormant monster that hovers throughout begins to become revealed more and more, just like the derelict, inexplicably
functioning lighthouse in the abandoned seaport reveals the town to be a little more dilapidated and horrific by each slow revolution of the beam.
Perichoresis also features stunning photography and imagery courtesy of urban photographer and explorer Melanie Rhys (www.urbandecay.org.uk) and will
most-likely appeal to fans of the glory days of the Cold Meat Industry era via such acts as RAISON DETRE, IN SLAUGHTER NATIVES etc. along with
such bands as SUNN 0))), NADJA, and LUSTMORD. "

Peter Rehberg
'Work for GV: 2004 - 2008' CD
Genre: noise/electronics
Peter Rehbergs collaboration with the Paris based puppeteer and choreographer, Gisle Vienne began in 2001, with the production of the DACM piece ShowroomDummies, followed by Stereotypie in 2003.
In 2004, Vienne started to direct under her own name and began to work on pieces collaborating on text with US author, Dennis Cooper. This CD is a document of selected audio parts of all Gisle Vienne
productions made between 2004 and 2008, except for the epic Kindertotenlieder, whose audio material was presented on the various KTL releases in 2006 and 2007 (eMEGO 084, eMEGO 085).
The range here is vast from the upfront noise excess of the I Apologize (2004) tracks to the lonely synth passages which were used in Une Belle Enfant Blonde (2005), and the sad coda used for
Jerk, which began as a radio play for Radio France Culture in 2007, before being adapted for stage in 2008.
The opening Murder Version is a version of the recording Meurtre by Catherine Robbe-Grillet & Jonathan Capdevielle, which was released as a single sided 12 vinyl in 2005 (UBEB 001), and
is to be considered as a tribute to the Alain Robbe-Grillet film Glissements progressifs du plaisir (1974).
Although this material was intended for consumption in a theatrical setting, it has been edited with domestic use in mind ultimately representing that the grey zone where puppetry,
literature, contemporary theatre & dance, visual art, and extreme computer music meet.

Religious Knives
"Live at bigjar" CD
Wow! This is not at all what I expected. I only had 'Remains' before I got these, this is way different. More fun than the other stuff, really good.
"A four track live disc recorded in August of 07 by myself. While Religious Knives represent half
the former output of Double Leopards the output from this quartet is anything but. Raw and dirty garage rock for keyboards,
bass, guitar and drums that sounds more comfortable being off the Doors early demo days box set rather then a nofun offshoot band.
Comes in a half panel sleeve graphic work by now frequent archive art collaborator Chase Middaugh. Pressing of 600 copies" - Archive.

Residual Echoes
"MFI-GBSP" CD
Residual Echoes, the brain child of Adam Payne, pave a psych-sound unique to themselves. Recorded late 2005, this LP, exclusive to Rocket Recordings, features four long excursions into psychedelia that brings to mind the
experimentation of early Pink Floyd, the guitar heroics of Youre Living All Over Me era Dinosaur Jr and the sonic groove of the Velvet Underground.
Residual Echoes first self released album featured Adam and the inspirational forces of Ben Chasney (Six Organs of Admittance) and Ethan Miler (Comets on Fire) and the subsequent LP created enough of a stir on the underground to gain them the prestigious Album Of The Month from none other than Julian Cope on his Head Heritage website. Since then they have had their debut album, now highly sought after in its original vinyl format, re-released by Holy Mountain who also put out their highly acclaimed secondalbum which saw their sound reach new levels of psyche noise.
"Like eavesdropping the most lysergically inspired hippie commune jam" Mojo
Unearthed a few of these. Great stuff. If you like stuff like SILVESTER ANFANG and BEN NASH and such, you'll probably dig this. 'nice price'!

R.Y.N.
"Astral Death" CD
"RYN is the project of Pete Burn (MARZURAAN) and Dean Glaister (ROMANCE). With one 7" on Drone Records to their name this is their first full
length. Six long tracks of slowly shifting massive drones created with guitar, bass, metal and effects. Cosmic drift as supenovas explode, dark matter envelops and your psyche slowly dissolves. Total Astral Death!
Great album, excellent work. Fans of early hour comedowns and cosmic levels of despair, self-regard and narcosis will be more than happy.
"A menacing yet strangely uplifting drone album, simply yet beautifully constructed." - Heathen Harvest.
"RYN are the bleakest and most cold of ambient projects. The pieces contained on Astral Death are more akin to the voids that have been caused by the absence of sound than its positive presence. Soft crackling grey
spaces rotate, divide and multiply revealing concentric storms of slow falling snow falling feedback and static. Twice projected into the ancient past and the ancient future
the listener is lost, abandoned in a neither/neither world with no signs to guide the way, no stars to navigate the ship. Stripped of bearing until meaning has no meaning and
disorientated until there is only the pulse of shimmering samsaric spirals of non-being/being the listener must submit to be lead through these places by the psychopomp of astral death." -
Christopher Walton. Recommended!

ALEX SANDERS
'A Witch Is Born' CD
Genre:spoken word/ritual
Alex Sanders (1926-1988) - "the King of the Witches" - was the most powerful witch in Britain. "Here, for the first time, he presents a full recording of the solemn initiation of
a new member into the ancient Craft. Assisting him is his wife and High Priestess, Maxine, and a coven of their young witches. Alex himself is a hereditary witch; he was initiated
by his grandmother when he was seven years old. For centuries the Craft was driven underground by persecution and intolerance. Today, though their innermost secrets may still be
only told to witches, they can open a few pages of their Book of Shadows - and for those who seek to know more of this faith that is older than history, they can set up signposts
to the way of Wicca, or wisdom. This record is such a signpost."

SILBERNACHT
'Liebe und Verfall: Die Hoffnun stirbt, die Liebe nicht' CD
"This one has been in the planning stages for a couple of years. Imagine a gloomy, old silent film. Imagine the soundtrack for that film. This CD would be the music you would hear.
Germany couldn't be a more appropriate home for SILBERNACHT, project of one Frank Esser, for this musical score seems to fit in perfectly with an era of film that is legendary the world over thanks to the genius of many a German filmmaker.
The release is on a 4-panel chipboard stock, with hand printed panels, is set up to look like the work received from Herr Esser over the years." - Ajna
Tracklisting:
1. Das Erwachen (The Awakening)
2. Liebe und Verfall (Love and Decay)
3. Unter den Sternen (Under the Stars)
4. Wenn der Tod nur Sehnsucht weckt (When Death only creates Longing)
This really is very good indeed and very unusual. Lots of reviews have mentioned various films that this brings to mind, but to my mind its "Carnival of Souls". This release is adrift in time, another great release from the ever
amazing Ajna.

SOULSEARCH
'Liedersammlung' CD
"classic Pagan-Doom Folkmetal with strong and heroic german lyrics and many medieval elements. Soulsearch started in the early 90s to create their
own, unique style, which would today be called Folkmetal, but at that time Soulsearch were alone in the fields. 10 years later, Folkmetal
(or Metalfolk) as we know it nowadays, began to establish as a own music style. All songs on this album were recorded between 1993 and 2000.
The CD includes the final Soulsearch release: the 10" IHERNO from 2000, which was limited to only 100 copies. The other songs are a fine
selection from their early albums (each album has sold 3000 to 5000 copies in the 90s!) + one unreleased track. After they split in 2001,
two ex-Soulsearch members joined again in 2005 and founded together with a third musician OUR SURVIVAL DEPENDS ON US, a more NEUROSIS-orientated
formation. Another ex-Soulsearch member (Haju) is one of the basic-members of STURMPERCHT."

SOUVENIR'S YOUNG AMERICA
'AN OCEAN WITHOUT WATER' CD
Genre: neo-psych melodic out-rock
Richmond, VA's cinematic instrumentalists SOUVENIR'S YOUNG AMERICA present their second full length, "An Ocean Without Water". The album was recorded with John Morand (Labradford, Sparklehorse, 4 Walls Falling) at Sound of Music.
Lush, shimmering guitar ambience and hypnotic, propulsive instrumental heaviness wind through the dusty highways and burnt twilight skies of "An Ocean Without Water,"
the sophomore album from Richmond's Souvenir's Young America. Divided into six flowing movements, "An Ocean Without Water" is filled with intensely beautiful melodies that
drift on lonesome harmonica strains and sparkling, celestial electronics, shot through with mystic, western slide guitar, passages of crushing angular riffage, rolling
tribal drumming, and transcendent blues. Through their intricate song arrangements and moody textures, Souvenir's Young America has created an epic, emotional narrative.
The sound draws from the collected DNA of forebears like Popul Vuh, Earth, Labradford, and Neurosis, yet they form a powerfully evocative instrumental language all of their own. Features collaborations with Aughra (Magic Bullet Records) and Nick Forte (Sublight Records, ex Rorschach / Beautiful Skin).
The band has developed their sound even further with this new album, and we couldn't be more stoked over the epic, moody sounds that onfold over "An Ocean Without Water's" 40 minute running time.
Great and unique, though I'd say there's strong appeal here for those into GRAILS, ZOMBI, ACROSS TUNDRAS, though its much more than a sum of those. There's a real pounding urgency to some of this album, don't be lulled into expecting driftimg ambience.

souvenir's young america
s/t CD
Genre: cinematic post-rock
Monstrous instrumental post-metal from Richmond, Virginia. Beautiful, flowing, HEAVY instrumental music, heavily layered, masterfully assembled creations,
emotionally moving and majestic like Red Sparowes, filled with dense shoegazer buildups and gorgeous droning electronic swirl, massively heavy prog-rock dirges
and sludgy piano-accompanied rock, never descending into boring noodling or overextended jams. A range of instruments are used here, keyboards, percussion, samples,
guitars, accordion, xylophone, cello, banjo, and much more. The whole album sounds like a soundtrack for a killer lost road-trip movie scored by members of Neurosis and
Godspeed You! Black Emperor doing a weird mix of 70's prog and biker rock, and 80's soundtrack metal, but with all sorts of forays into lonesome, dusty country guitar-twang,
long droning expanses of floating electronic drones, supremely beautiful and often super-crushing !!! This is ABSOLUTELY A MUST GET for fans of heavy instrumental ambient metal
/ post-rock (Red Sparowes, Mogwai, Mono, Pelican, Isis, etc.), and soundtrack-influenced heaviness (Zombi, Chromelodeon). Totally recommended along with their follow up
release also on sale here.

THE STARGAZER'S ASSISTANT
"Schwarzhagel" CD
"David J. Smith (Guapo, Miasma & The Carousel Of Dead Horses) releases a second set of recordings as The Stargazer's Assistant. Following The Other Side of the Island on Aurora Borealis,
Shivers and Voids is a union of instrument, voice and tape. A soundtrack left waiting for the right film to accompany it
through the dark. Sweeping, intricate, sometimes ominous, yet always exuding a warmth of emotion. Ancient forests,
vast plains, billowing clouds, rusted metal hulks, wet rock walls, lights flickering in darkness. The Stargazer's
Assistant reveals all this to us." - Utech

'The Foreboding Silence' CD
Genre: ambient/black metal
This ones from 2008. I could quote from reviews about "pummeling an empty bucket with a wooden spoon" and the usual forests and dissonant outsider BM sounds from Tasmania, but I won't. However you slice it, this is some of the most fucked up, deranged 'music' you are ever likely to hear. The man is possessed to just keep creating album after album, unhindered by any kind of concern for rhythm, tuning, audio fidelity or indeed anything other than his bleak and frosty vision. I once was listening to Prurient's 'Black Vase' on the bus when I suddenly thought 'what the fuck am I doing? This is painful'. Striborg causes similar questions when I listen to him. I'm intrigued in the same way as fatal diseases are interesting. "It's not the pinnacle of musicianship or inventiveness, but if that's a worry you're completely missing the point...allow yourself to be carried away to this colorless wasteland." - Metal Observer.
I keep trying to get carried away, I really do.

SVARROGH
Balkan Renaissance CD
"The Bulgarian Black Folklore ensemble Svarrogh of Dimo Dimov has recorded another masterpiece of Ritual Folk music. "Balkan Renaissance"
is already the 4th Svarrogh album under the banner of the god of the sun. This mystic sound-journey drags you along to the ancient heart of
the Balkan mountains, its caves, rivers, villages and people with their deep mythological roots. Svarrogh's sound is absolutely unique,
not only because of the beautiful mandolin-playing and the bagpipes, mixed with droning synths, which envocate the return of the sun.
Svarrogh creates a musical look through a grey window to discover the dark past of Bulgarias 19th century and its Renaissance, after years
of osman opression. On "Balkan Renaissance" you can listen to original passages of famous bulgarian poets and artists like Dora Gabe,
Elisaveta Bagryan, Elin Pelin, Dimitar Talev or the amazing poems of Ivan Vazov. On this album, Dimo Dimov also pays a tribute to the
genius music of Allerseelen with the song "Kamerad". And as a special feature, the CD will also contain a so called Martenitsi.
Martenitsa is a Bulgarian heathen/pagan tradition related to March 1, which has its origin in the establishment of the Bulgarian state in
681 AD. Mart is the Bulgarian word for "March". According to Bulgarian folklore, the month March marks the beginning of springtime. Therefore,
the first day of March is a traditional holiday associated with sending off the winter and welcoming the spring. Key-figures in these
ancient traditional rites are the Kukeri, the demons who banish winter and invite spring and fertility. The Kukeri are the Balkan counterpart
to the Austrian and south Bavarian Perchten. This album is full of traditional-, pagan- and ritual Folk music, Neo-Classical songs, Martial
drummings and it has even some Industrial moments. - 18 tracks / 73 min."
Strange mixture of Black Metal elements in the staccato guitar (& mandolin) work, and the vocals in parts too, and more Folk and Allerseelen style neo-Folk.
Very unusual indeed, plus the Martenitsi is like a woolen pompom type of thing. Unique would be a good word, and well worth checking out.
CD with special Martenitsi lim.>500< / Ahnstern

The TenHornedBeast rises again. Five new compositions from black ambient / doom overlord Christopher Walton - three remixes / expansions / contractions of songs
from the debut album "The Sacred Truth" and two totally new pieces that are in a similar style to this dark masterpiece. Walton has stripped some of the songs to their bare
bones and allowed them space to breathe again. This album is all-new but continues the atmosphere of the debut and can be considered a companion piece. Presented in a matt-laminate,

T.O.M.B.
'Macabre Noize Royale' CD
Genre: black noise
T.O.M.B. is a mysterious, unnamed entity well known for crafting the darkest noise recordings with the aid of nothing but field recordings. With 'Macabre Noize Royale', T.O.M.B. has set out to push the boundaries further than ever before.
To collect the field recordings T.O.M.B. travelled and trespassed through Pennsylvanias darkest landmarks including:
Bethlehem Steel Works - builder of large calibre guns during WWI and WWII
Eden Hall Church - 157 year old gothic church destroyed from arson
Laurel Hill Cemetery - 170 year old cemetery
Lambertville High School - students burned alive 30 years ago, site of countless suicides since.
Each location has a disturbing history and they have become locations of multiple ghost sightings and unexplained deaths.
Through these field recordings, smashing recording rods into massive steel structures and ancient crypt doors, T.O.M.B. reawakens the decaying structures and the agonizing history they hold sealed.
The recordings are then crafted into the darkest, heaviest BLACK NOISE ever recorded. And for the first time full Black Metal / Industrial tracks have been created.
Macabre Noize Royale is T.O.M.B.s most diverse album by far. Integrating pure noise with ambience, Industrial and Black Metal. The clear intention is to push the boundaries of Black Noise sound manipulation and continue to shock the listener (both fans and newcomers).
The previous tape was really extreme and an excellent release. This full album builds on those grim foundations: this is total black evil noise. Supreme.

trees
s/t CD
Genre: extreme doom
The debut album from the Portland quartet Trees delivers two epic tracks of monolithic, blackened doom metal with a twisted, noise-damaged approach
and a dank basement vibe. Trees craft glacial abstract riffs and rivers of ashen amplifier goo that fans of feedback-laden heaviosity will find
highly satisfying, a kind of grinding, slow-motion black hole psychedelia that has a similiar hypnotic death-ritual quality as artists like Bloody
Panda and Khanate, but with their own unique trance state of swirling guitar textures, horrific jet black dronescapes and ghoulish, excoriating vocals.
Features members of the PDX psych-sludge outfit Tecumseh (we stocked some of their vinyl before here at AB). This CD edition of the TREE's debut comes
in a Stoughton printed 4-panel gatefold case.
I'd definitely recommend this to anyone mising their Khanate fix. Torturous!

A single epic sprwaling live jam "one microphone straight to minidisc". 40 minutes and 53 seconds of ultra obscure "true sheffield black psychedelia".
Sound is a little buried, but the playing is tight and sharp as knives. Some great drumming, not afraid of stepping on the gas here and there. Very varied as the
track moves on, some SILVESTER ANFANG vibes, there's a great section with howling vocals, even a touch of ABRUPTUM in thee air at one point. There is definitely something in the
Sheffield water.

URTHONA
'amid devonia's alps' CD
Genre: guitar drone/outrock/Heavy Rural
"Urthona is back with their devastating second album AMID DEVONIAS ALPS, three incredible slabs of rural Luddite VU overload from
deep in the heart of Wessex. Within the fiery soul of this Urthona music, there's a holy beauty that transcends its many
contemporaries, as colossal guitars intertwine around the base of listeners minds, lifting them skywards like a magical beanstalk
ride. Sumptuously packaged in the same fashion as last years Head Heritage album I REFUTE IT THUS, Urthonas music is the Ult in
meditative aids, and a freight-train ride to oblivion." - Julian Cope
"Almost 60 minutes of soaring, unrelenting guitar worship and field recordings from deepest Dartmoor. Three enormous tracks...commencing with an
Ur-garage racket that conjures up visions of the Barrett Floyd hammering T. Dreams early 45 Ultima Thule, before plateauing out
into two exceedingly beautiful and enormously vast eternities of axe overload, ernie-ernieing seagull dives, digital distortion and
microphonic feedback somewhere along the lines of Nadja, To Blacken The Pages and the Angelic Process, but even better and even more
useful." - Further
When Mark Pilkington described this to me as 'Heavy Rural' I was sold. really nice packaging with all the intellect that you can expect from a Strange Attractor related
item. Great text in here too.

'Idioscape' CD digipack
Genre: experimental/ambient/drone
"the idea was to ask some of our favourite sound artists to take part in a compilation . . . and, to our surprise, they accepted.
The only concept was that they had to provide a specific / particular / idiosyncratic piece. qualified as a drone paradise by lasse marhaug (of jazkamer),
the result is a fine and coherent whole, full of extended textures, contrasted acoustic surfaces, subtle and strong.
Idioscapes contains 70 minutes of authentic acoustic researches, with glitches, loops, noises, deep and glittering textures, subliminal
frequences and narrative inserts, punctured with sensible musical moments.
Idiosyncratics is honoured to present these sound masters on idioscapes. infinite thanks to all of them."

VELVET CACOON
"Genevieve" CD
Curiously named US duo with the Loki spirit: previously claiming to be eco-fascists and swathed in a cloak of mystery, they now claim to be hoaxers and drug addicts.
Musically, this is an incredible fusion of the drifting drone feel of EARTH 2 and hypnotic BM of say BLUT AUS NORD. Cold and brittle, but with incredible depth, dragging you down into its glacial heart. Thoroughly recommended, and highly interesting in their manipulation of perception/belief amongst a an isolated scene.

VOMIR
'Proanomie' CD
Genre: noise/PE
"The 50th At War release so it had to be Vomir! First ever "proper" CD of harsh noise wall and it does not disappoint at all! I find it difficult to
describe the sheer brutality of either the concept of Vomir's music or indeed the sound of the music itself. It's long, it does not
change, and it leaves me with a feeling of intense loss and depression afterward. Truly some of the most powerful music I know.
For Vomir there is nothing, and this is how he makes that statement. It's an ugly listen for sure, but well worth the effort.
500 copies, pro CD, great minimal artwork by Strom Varx." - AWWFN.

WHITEDAUGHTER
"Stiff with the invisible" CD
Superlative miserablist pop album from ex Bridge & Tunnel members. "White Daughter have produced an incredibly accomplished downer pop album recalling everything from John Carpenter's minimal soundtracks from the 70's
and early Depeche Mode through to Leonard Cohen's unique take on Americana and Suicide's brittle future/retro. They even manage to turn the Misfits' "Cough/Cool"
into a streamlined analogue-synth propelled miserabilist anthem.
This is driving music for automobile-assisted suicides." Really good stuff.

WORMSBLOOD
"Mastery of Creation" CD
Genre:avant garde Black Metal
"Known for his work in the popular proto doom act Jex Thoth and from his own power electronics outfit Burial Hex, Clay Ruby ventures in a different direction this time. An album of outsider metal, it's sparse and bleak, but rumblings, clanging and tortured cries erupt violently throughout. A very unhinged and dangerous album. Comparisons could be drawn to Armanenschaft, Blood of the Black Owl & the True Werwolf, both musically, as well as in the sense those bands also use black metal as a foundation to explore darker, more experimental avenues. "
Hot on the heels of the "In the Stars" vinyl on AB, this CD collects assorted demos and sessions by this incredible and intense band. Great artwork once again by Mr G Lansard.
Tracklist: Fragments of the Witch / Hollow Cost Nothing / The First Dim Shining (of Those About to Awaken) / Sig Bind / Goodnight / A Wolf in the Night / Obsessed by the Bloodstone (Intro) / Through the Veil of Birth / Of a Morning Phase Unstirred / On a Burial of Unsilent Night Soil.

Wraiths
"Plaguebearer" CD
"Harrowing death-ambient and blast-furnace power drone. The searing
soundtrack to desolate, nihilistic electronics through undulating sheets of ice cold atmosphere and claustrophobic dread.
Haunting ritual evokation of all consuming, shape-shifting blackness. Electronic ritual in spectral tongue. Five tracks over fifty five minutes. Tracklist : Nihil Rex,
Plaguebearer, Bone Flutes & Skull Drums, To Corrupt The Waters Of Lethe, Ghoulsong."- Paradigms
There's something very John Carpenter about Wraiths, maybe its the sort of warm analogue feel or the pulsing repetition in parts, not sure what it is, but there's something very special
about them and I think they have a very distinctive sound, they stand out from the crowd of shaven headed dark-ambient blah blah blah. Great stuff. Recommended.

This album is a musical extension of a soundtrack produced by Y.E.R.M.O. in collaboration with conceptual and visual artists Nadine Hilbert &
Gast Bouschet for the Luxembourg Pavilion at the 53rd Venice Biennale (running till november 2009).
The music is an invocation of the coldness and cruelty of a borderzone between two worlds and a transmutation of fear into euphoria.
The album is a unique piece of immersive ritual sounds, dominated by loud, distorded guitars, hypnotic percussions and industrial drones within
rain-soaked Mediterranean landscapes.

ZARACH'BAAL'THARAGH
"Eternal Darkness" CD
New collection of long out-of-print demos from the French master of bedroom black metal, ZBT! This is totally raw stuff, utterly devoid of production values and often, song structure. This disc comprises some of ZBT's more considered, "musical" demos, from the repetitive dirge of "Primitive Era", the unrestrained wail and incoherance of "Apocalypse" to the thrash-esque precise riffing of "El Borak". While this is often a difficult listen, the riffs are fucking great - opener "In Your Grave" is total Vulcano/Sarcofago-style South American-influenced filth - and the underground attitude and amateurish sound contributes to the true black metal atmosphere that so may lack these days. ZBT is obviously influenced by Les Legiones Noires, with jarring tremello guitar, off-kilter production and is as mysterious and just plain weird as those bands were. For fans of bedroom BM like Striborg or cult LLN such as Mutiilation, Belketre etc.
Classic B&W art in tribute to the old masters! This is a full CD, NOT CDr.

Z'EV
'Sum Things' CD
Genre:dark ambient
Through an element darkly In the fall of 2005 ZEV began dipping deep into his archives and selecting recordings to produce sum things / a possible form for cold dark matter,
a project reflecting his take on the dark ambience genre. Composed between December 2005 and March 2006, these 6 pieces endeavor to transport the listener deep into their long
forgotten memories of the primal forces at the dawn of creation. Each piece is based on a single sound source. Absolutely no effects of any kind, not even equalization, were applied
to the source recordings. Instead ZEV relied solely on the stretching of the duration and pitch of the samples and then edited and mixed the results down into the heart of space.
Hear then, the state of the art in elemental musics. Not to forget the beautiful packaging by artist Abby Helasdottir.
